Douglas J Applicant Search for Natural Talent Scholarship Contest
Prizes Totaling $100,000 in Scholarships to the Douglas J Aveda Institute

EAST LANSING-----What could you do with a blank canvas and all the right tools? The Douglas J Natural Talent Scholarship Contest is asking for applicants from all over Michigan with no professional cosmetology experience to answer this question. With the application deadline set for Friday, May 9, Douglas J searches for more applicants to add excitement, and peer pressure, to their 6th annual competition.

“This contest is a great opportunity to find Michigan’s undiscovered cosmetology talent,” said Scott Weaver, President and Co-Owner of Douglas J. “With the beauty industry growing at nearly the same rate as our population, we’re looking for the crème de la crème,” he added.

The Natural Talent Scholarship Contest (NTSC) selects contestants based on the quality of their application, essay submission and overall financial need. The first place winner receives a much-coveted, full-ride tuition to The Douglas J Aveda Institute, with varying denominations of scholarship money given to runners-up.

The competition is judged on the applicants’ ability to design and bring to life an evening look for a flesh and blood runway model; this includes the model’s hair, make-up, and clothing selection. On June 8, the models will take to the runway at the beautiful Royal Oak Music Theater in Royal Oak to display the contestant’s work. Audience turnout is expected between 500 and 600 people.

“The more applications we receive, the better this event will be,” said Weaver. “We want this years NTSC to be the edgiest, most dramatic show yet.”

What is the Natural Talent Scholarship Contest?

The Natural Talent Scholarship Contest (NTSC) is a competition where prospective students with no cosmetology background or training, compete by creating an evening look on a model.

The grand prize winner(s) will win a full tuition cosmetology scholarship to any of the Douglas J Aveda Institutes. Douglas J will give a total amount of up to $100,000.00 in scholarship awards in varying denominations.

Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges.  The judges will score the contestants based on a written essay, over all look on their model, and the before and after transformation.

Who can compete?

Packets will be sent to high schools throughout Michigan, with special attention to remote and urban areas.   Douglas J will also announce its contest in waves of TV, internet and print advertising.
