About Hello Gorgeous!

Hello Gorgeous! is a nonprofit organization that provides free, professional makeovers and cosmetic education to women who are battling different types of cancer. They aim to create a one-of-a-kind experience for these women. Hello Gorgeous! has performed hundreds of makeovers for deserving women over the nine years they’ve been operating. The Douglas J family is so proud to partner with such a generous institution!

Team: Hello Gorgous

How Recipients Are Chosen

In order to receive a makeover, women are nominated by their friends and family to Hello Gorgeous!. Women from several states can be nominated and treated in a spa near their home. (Click here to check for affiliate salons near you.) The deserving woman’s family submits her name, details and why she should to be treated to a spa day! Then, the fun begins!

The Makeover Process

The Hello Gorgeous! team surprises the nominee at the salon, at her home or at her place of work. She is walked into the salon entrance on her own red carpet, handed a bundle of flowers and a box of chocolates, and then she is greeted with a boisterous “Hello Gorgeous!” as she walks inside.

Then, a before picture is taken and she is whisked away for the following relaxing services:

  • A 30 minute facial using KPS Essentials to relax and hydrate the skin.
  • A mani and pedi to polish the tiniest details.
  • A cut and color to spruce up her hair or her wig.
  • A full face of makeup application (also from KPS) to bring out her inner glam.

After she is spoiled at the salon, a new outfit and lunch is provided to round off the day. A few after pics are snapped and she is sent off with tons of hugs and well wishes. Each makeover is provided with the woman’s condition in mind.

Specialized Training

All salon and spa employees who provide these makeovers are specially trained to provide services to women with health conditions. Their training is focused on supplying oncology patients with a relaxing and tailored service while keeping them comfortable.

The Hello Gorgeous! Treatment at Douglas J

The Douglas J Okemos location is the first of our salons and spas to provide these makeovers. Last month we were honored to provide a makeover for a member of our own community. Hello gorgeous, hello Eva!

About Eva

Eva was nominated for a Hello Gorgeous! makeover by her best friend, Roxanne. Eva had been battling Ovarian Cancer, and she even had a major surgery and chemo. After losing her hair and going through what seemed like the impossible, Eva was given the green light: she was cancer free! Eva celebrated with her friends, family and her young daughter.

Unfortunately, in February of 2018 she found out the cancer returned, and she would have to battle once again. Before she fights again with all her strength, Roxanne and Eva’s daughter thought that Eva deserved to be treated.

Roxanne said,

“She’s a fighter and she’s the strongest person I know, but everyone needs a day off, and let someone pamper them and feel glamorous, even if it’s just for a day.”

We consider ourselves lucky to have had Eva in our salon! Her beautiful personality filled the salon floor, and we can’t wait to have her back again for her next spa day. She was such a treat to have as our first Hello Gorgeous! makeover.
