05/28/2019

At Douglas J Salons, it’s safe to say we love all things beauty. From skin care to hair cuts, perms to pedicures, we pretty much eat, sleep, and breathe beauty. Of course, we love more than just our work. We also love where we live! Here are some of our favorite things to do in Wyoming, MI.

Our Favorite Places to Eat

Our Favorite Places to Eat

Monelli’s Italian Grill & Sports Bar

The first place we recommend is a great spot to grab food after you come in for a service because it’s in the same shopping center as our salon! Monelli’s Italian Grill & Sports Bar is a family-friendly restaurant with excellent pizza, great burgers, 52 different beers on tap and a Molten Lava Cake that is to die for. You don’t just have to take our word for it either, since they have a 4.4 star rating with over 1,100 reviews on Google. If you’ve got a craving for some Italian food and don’t want to miss the game, Monelli’s is the perfect stop.

The Red Geranium Cafe

Another great place to eat just around the corner from our salon is The Red Geranium Cafe. You’ll have to get up a bit earlier for this one, because they are a breakfast and lunch only cafe. Locally-owned and operated, they have some amazing omelettes, skillets and burgers. Our go-to omelet is the Farmer’s Omelette which has ham, green peppers, onions, potatoes, and cheddar cheese. If you’re looking for a vegetarian option, try the Veggie Eggs Benedict which has broccoli, mushrooms, tomato, onion, green pepper, poached eggs, hollandaise and potatoes on an english muffin. If you like classic American breakfast cuisine, you’ll love The Red Geranium Cafe.

Our Favorite Places to Get Outside

Our Favorite Place to Get Outside

Millennium Park

Now that Spring is in full swing, we love to get outside. If you’ve never been, Millennium Park is a great place to spend the day. Located just across the Grand river from Wyoming, the park stretches along 6 miles of the Grand river, connecting the Johnson and John Ball parks. The park is home to over 18 miles of trails, a beach and a variety of natural wildlife habitats. The beach is usually open from May through October, though this does depend on the weather each year.

The Pines Golf Course

Golf is another great way to enjoy the beautiful outdoors, and our first choice is The Pines Golf Course that is just down the street. It has 18 holes, a driving range, and two practice greens. The Pines prides itself on being affordable and having something to offer to every golfer, regardless of skill level. If you’re brand new, you can practice your stroke at the driving range. If you’re a seasoned expert, they have over 30 different leagues that are often looking for additions. They even have a children’s golf clinic that meets six times throughout the summer to help your kids pick up the basics. If you’re needing a new place to golf, look no further than The Pines.

Our Favorite Places to Explore

Our Favorite Places to Explore

Grand Rapids Children Museum

When we’re not outside or eating delicious food, one of our favorite places to visit is the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Just a short drive into downtown Grand Rapids, GRAM has been a fixture of the community for over 100 years. It has a diverse collection that is constantly growing and changing, a collection that highlights thousands of years of human creativity and thousands of individual items. It also houses different travelling exhibits throughout the year, so there is always something new to see. Even better, you can get in for free all day on Tuesdays and from 5-9pm on Thursdays!

Grand Rapids Art Museum

As much as we love a good art museum, we know that sometimes kids don’t like them quite as much. If we’re looking to go out with the whole family, we go to the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum. Kids will love exploring the “kidstruction zone” or playing in the bubble exhibit. Even the toddlers can have fun and learn new things in the “wee discover” area. And let’s be honest, we all know we have just as much fun as the kids!

There you have it: some of our favorite places to eat, get outside, and explore. The best part is that these are just a few of the great things to do around here. With even more parks, great food, malls, movie theaters and more, it’s easy to see why we love it here so much!
