HydraFacial
HydraFacial uses patented technology to cleanse, extract and hydrate. There are four steps to this treatment: cleanse + exfoliate, a gentle peel, vacuum extractions and hydration. There are four types of medical-grade HydraFacials available. The Illuminating HydraFacial MD helps to even skin tone, reduce appearance of hyperpigmentation, restore hydration balance and prevent future pigment. The Calming HydraFacial MD detoxifies and soothes visible redness of the skin. The Restoring HydraFacial MD helps clear away damaged collagen and elastin and promotes new generation. This helps with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Platinum HydraFacial is a more customized option that is tailored to fit your personal skin care needs. These treatments have no downtime afterwards.

Chemical Peel
Chemical Peels are a mixture of chemicals applied to the face that work to lift away dead and damaged skin cells on the skin’s surface. They then stimulate the existing cells to regenerate and produce more collagen. Douglas J MedSpa uses PCA SKIN chemical peels, which are formulated to be effective yet comfortable on the face. The main benefit of chemical peels is the exfoliation, which is used to treat acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. This treatment has a downtime of three to five days; during this time, you can expect some redness and peeling while your skin works to regenerate.

Microneedling
Microneedling works by applying sterile microneedles deep into the dermis of the skin. These needles create microscopic channels that stimulate the natural production of collagen and deliver radio-frequency heat energy at the desired depths to promote remodeling of collagen and elastin that tightens and lifts the skin. Microneedling treats fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin texture, and minimizes pores. This treatment has minimal downtime, there may be redness that lasts for a few hours, and it is recommended to not wear makeup for twelve hours after.

Plasma Skin Tightening
Plasma Skin Tightening uses the Subnovii Plasma Pen and is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment. The Subnovii creates a plasma stream of ionized gas to stimulate tissue remodeling and the production of collagen. It can help with acne scars, tighten and tone the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and aid with cellular renewal. This treatment has a downtime of five to ten days afterwards, during this time, small scabs created during the treatment will fall off.

Botox
Botox uses tiny injections to block nerve impulses to the muscles and reduce their movement. This decreased muscle activity helps lessen the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines. This treatment has minimal downtime.

Juvéderm
Juvéderm uses hyaluronic acid injections, which is a natural substance in the body, to deliver volume to the skin. Getting treated with Juvéderm helps add volume to different areas of the face without surgery. It works by plumping the skin in wrinkles to smooth them out. This treatment has minimal downtime, but there may be some swelling and tenderness at the injection site, which typically goes down within seven days.

I want to treat wrinkles, which service should I get?
The Restoring HydraFacial MD, Chemical Peels, Microneedling, Botox, and Juvéderm all are treatments that help with the appearance of wrinkles. So, how do you decide which treatment is best? HydraFacial, Chemical Peels, and Microneedling treatments will all soften the appearance of mild wrinkles. If you are deciding between these three treatments, it could be useful to think about your other skin care concerns and see which treatment also addresses those. Botox and Juvéderm are more intensive treatments for wrinkles. The difference between these is that Botox will freeze muscle movement to reduce wrinkles, while Juvéderm will add volume to treat them. If you feel that you want to plump areas of your face and treat wrinkles, Juvéderm is a great option. Otherwise, Botox would be benefical for treating just wrinkles.

I want to treat acne scars and improve my skin texture, which treatment should I get?
Chemical Peels, Microneedling, and Plasma Skin Tightening are all effective in improving the appearance of acne scars. These treatments encourage the regeneration of skin cells. Chemical Peels focus on exfoliation, while Microneedling and Plasma Skin Tightening create small wounds to the skin that will promote production of new skin cells. Looking at the other benefits of each treatment as well as considering downtime after the procedure can help with your decision.

I want to address hyperpigmentation, which treatment should I get?
The Illuminating HydraFacial MD and Chemical Peels both can help with hyperpigmentation. HydraFacial will be a gentler option to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. The chemical peel will treat the condition a little more aggressively by chemically exfoliating your skin and has a downtime of three to five days. These treatments both address other issues as well, so when deciding, think about your other skin care concerns.

The bottom line is that the MedSpa treatments can address a variety of skin concerns, and your provider will help you decide on which treatment to receive, but it is also important to go into your consultation well informed about your options! Make sure to ask lots of questions during your consultation and express exactly what you are looking to achieve, this will help you and our MedSpa Director, Dr. Lena Weinman, work together to pick the perfect treatment for you!
