Fish-A-Thon Competition Raises Nearly $4,000 for Clean Water Efforts
Lansing, MI – April 24, 2013-- Scott Weaver, Douglas J Companies CEO is recently competed against Bass Pro-Fisherman and Lansing native, Chad Pipkens in a friendly fundraising competition that raised nearly $4,000 for the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
On Monday, April 22 from 9AM – 7AM, the pair spent the day fishing and after a tally of fundraising proceeds, the winner who raised the most money was ultimately tossed into the chilly lake. The public was welcomed to participate by donating to the cause that will benefit the Alliance for the Great Lakes, the oldest independent organization devoted 100 percent to the preservation of the Great Lakes.
“Taking care of our world and its resources is something we take very seriously here at Douglas J. We love this state — we live here and we do business here. Working with the Alliance of the Great Lakes, a Great Lakes-based nonprofit, is our way of giving back to it,” Weaver said.
The five Great Lakes hold 20% of the world's fresh water and have more than 11,000 miles of shoreline in recent decades; there have been significant effort to protect the Great Lakes from natural invasions and pollution. Douglas J is proud to be a partner in these donating to these causes. In 2012, Douglas J raised nearly $30,000 for local charities during Earth Month in advocacy of clean water.
Donations to contribute to clean water and Earth Month can be made at any Douglas J location throughout the month of April.
