Free massages next to a downtown Royal Oak parking garage Thursday put a soft-touch on passersby to donate toward a happy ending for a crowdfunded “smart park” at the site.
“That was awesome,” said Arun Prasad, a Royal Oak software company owner, as he arose from a massage chair and made a donation. “I’m a staunch supporter of having park here. It will be beautiful.”
Travis Brock and Kaylee Barber of the Aveda Institute in downtown Royal Oak give massages to two passersby next to the Center Street parking garage to raise money for a “smart park” the city wants to build at the site.
The free massages in exchange for donations were offered by students from the Douglas J Aveda Institute, located near the Center Street municipal parking garage. Aveda is one of many area businesses helping Royal Oak reach its goal as the city seeks online donations at rosmartpark.com.
By early afternoon, people had donated hundreds of dollars after getting a free massage.
