What Is a PDO Thread Lift?

A non-surgical facelift uses dissolving PDO (polydioxanone) threads to lift the tissues along your jawline. These FDA-approved threads act as a framework for collagen production, which naturally firms and uplifts the skin over time.

Botox® and fillers are wonderful for anti-aging, but they can’t typically address sagging in the lower face or jowls. That’s where PDO threads come in.

How Is a PDO Thread Lift Performed?

Temporary threads (sutures) are used to produce a subtle but visible “lift” in the skin. Instead of removing the patient’s loose facial skin surgically, it is ‘lifted’. This has the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore lifting and tightening the face. There will be no excess skin visible after the procedure. Threads will dissolve over 6-8 weeks, and do not need removal.

In addition to being ideal for lifting the skin, threads combat aging in another way: by provoking the body’s “healing response” and causing the body to direct large surges of collagen to treated areas. This is important because of the vital role collagen plays in the aging process. This is also the process that follows placement of threads in other locations of the face. Because the threads placed under the skin during the thread lift are so small, you will not feel the threads once they are in place!

Recovery from a thread lift is rather easy. Thread lifts are performed under local (injectable) anesthesia. While some guests may experience a little bit of soreness, redness and swelling after having a thread lift, most return to work and normal daily activity right away.

How Long Do PDO Thread Lift Results Last?

Non-surgical facelift results typically last from 6-24 months, depending on each patient. The PDO threads themselves stay in place for about 6-8 weeks as collagen production begins and the threads gradually dissolve. The threads are made from a biocompatible material called PDO, which has been specially designed for safe re-absorption by the body. You will notice a gradual improvement in your skin’s tone and firmness. The effects of the threads continue even once the threads have dissolved.

You can expect your lifted, youthful look for a year or more after treatment. We can always embed more threads in the future should you need an additional pick-me-up.
